Centerplate’s CEO, Des Hague, was honored by the San Diego Convention Center Corporation with The Flame of Friendship award in recognition of a successful partnership spanning nearly 20 years. Given in appreciation to individuals or organizations instrumental in the ongoing success of the San Diego Convention Center, the award was presented to Hague at a luncheon at the University Club in San Diego by the San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s president and CEO, Carol Wallace, and Board Chair, Phil Blair.
“Without doubt, Centerplate has been a truly outstanding partner in the success of the San Diego Convention Center these past 20 years. Their talented team provides our clients with extraordinary food and beverage experiences that distinguish our facility from our competition,” said Wallace.
“It was my distinct pleasure to accept the Flame of Friendship Award,” said Hague. “It is a tremendous honor and Centerplate is extremely proud of the exceptional relationship that we share with the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. It is our privilege to be their partner in providing event hospitality to our guests.”
The award is a replica of the original Flame of Friendship, a stainless steel abstract sculpture crafted by renowned artist Leonardo Nierman, which stands a tall 20 feet beside the bayside terrace of the Convention Center. The original was presented as a symbol of goodwill and friendship from the Mexican Consul General and represents the long-standing partnership between San Diego and its neighboring city, Tijuana, Mexico.
