Under a long-term contract, Centerplate is the official provider of high quality culinary services to the Vancouver Convention Centre.

We are currently seeking a Banquet Manager at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

After recently completing a large scale expansion of the facility we are now recruiting for this position.   The successful candidate must be well positioned to take on the challenges associated with day to day food and beverage operations in a 500,000 sq ft. facility while ensuring the highest quality guest experience is delivered at all times.  Previous experience in a like role and facility is mandatory to meet the challenges for this demanding position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Banquet Manager is responsible for:

  • Development, documentation and maintenance of the highest quality Service Standards and championing our Service Excellence philosophy throughout all daily operations.
  • Ensuring smooth day-to-day operations of a large scale Banquet Department that regularly handles events in excess of 3,000 guests.
  • Provide detailed reporting and information to Banquet Captains to ensure that they have all the tools to be successful and are empowered to deliver extraordinary event experiences.
  • Oversee the Retail Department and manage the Beverage Captains & Cashiers.  Manage weekly beverage inventory and ordering.  Ensure that beverage stocks are monitored and controlled.  Manage all aspects of cash handling procedures.
  • Recruitment, training, motivation and development of a professional team of Banquet Employees dedicated to providing a superior guest experience.
  • Must be a cordial and effective liaison with clients as well as Event Services and Catering Sales Managers before, during and after every function to ensure expectations are consistently exceeded.
  • Organize service delivery on the Banquet floor, from hands-on supervision to co-ordination of all event details.
  • Prepare all required paperwork and documentation as required by corporate office.
  • Enforce HR policies and procedures.  Handle all HR related employee interactions which include employee coaching, behaviour modifications and discipline. 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed employee records. Deliver performance evaluations, set performance goals and monitor progress of Banquet Captains and Assistant Banquet Manager.
  • Monitor and control productivity and payroll on a daily basis to ensure budgets goals are consistently achieved.  Provide labour forecasts and continually monitor labour performance. 
  • Prepare weekly departmental schedules.
  • Foster and lead open communication with the Kitchen, Stewarding, Facility Set Up and all other departments within the Centre while promoting teamwork and looking for shared labour opportunities between departments.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly operational meetings working with the team to find efficiencies and plan for the logistics of upcoming events.
  • Rigorously enforce Health and Safety Standards and maintain accurate and timely records of work related injuries or incidents.
  • Monitor, order and maintain departmental equipment requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years of senior Banquet Experience in a large-scale hotel or high-quality convention centre is a must.
  • High school diploma is a must and a degree or diploma in Hotel Administration is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must have unwavering and exceptional service delivery standards.
  • Successful candidate must be willing to work a variety of shifts and be available as business demands require.
  • Must be extremely professional in all forms of business interactions and communications and must present a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Excellent computer skills are required and preference is given to candidates that are familiar with property management systems such as EBMS.
